Intro to Articles and Speeches

We have available for you (at no charge) 30 article-the first 12 are described here. We would need to have proper recognition of the author and of Partners With Kids (we will tell you how to do this).

For speeches, Dr. Pierro and other staff members can give speeches at your opening meeting or at your final “Awards Ceremony”, or whatever. The speeches will be based on the articles listed or you may want to give us a topic of relevance to you and we'll see what we can do. There will be transportation costs and a reasonable honorarium charged for this service.

1 – The PartnersWithKids Program – The Wolf and The Pack

This is an overview of the PartnersWithKids Program showing the roles and responsibilities of all members of the Team ; Players, Parents and Coaches.. Observe how a single Wolf operates and how a pack of Wolves operates and see how we coaches and parents can improve our operation.

2 – Nuevo Progresso – The Real Game of Soccer

During a mission trip to Mexico, we watched some of our kids get together with some of the Mexican kids. Soon they were choosing teams and playing soccer. We observed the joy exhibited by the kids as they played and we wondered if we have captured that same joy of play in our soccer leagues.

3 – Ben Curtis and Motivation

Early in his life, Ben Curtis, the 2004 British Open Champion, showed a great personal interest in playing golf – he didn't have to be “motivated” by the significant adults in his life. This is the ideal condition. Are your kids personally interested in playing Soccer? Let's explore the pros and cons of intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation .

4 – Competition and Cooperation

In team sports, it is essential that the coach achieve complete cooperation among the players before the team can effectively deal (compete) with their opponents. If a player ' s personal goals take precedence over the goals of the team, the team (The Pack) becomes less effective.

5 – Readiness to Play and Compete

Each of our Kids is ready to learn about our game and how to play it. Unfortunately (or, perhaps more fortunately), all children don't grow at the same rate, physically, they don't acquire the ability to learn game skills at the same time, they don't learn the strategies of the game at the same time. We have to accept where the child is and not treat him or her in terms of where we want him or her to be.

6 – Modalities and Effective Learning

Some of our kids are Visual learners, some are Auditory, and some are Kinesthetic/Tactile. Coaching a Visual learning by giving verbal directions can be frustrating; coaching an Auditory learner with diagrams can be self-defeating; etc. What to do? What to do? Read on for the simple, effective solution.

7 – The Road To Excellence...

Our challengers are more than our opponents; they are the co-creators of an environment which enables us to express our excellence . When we oppose a team that is far inferior to us, we tend to lose our excellence. We will probably win, but we haven ' t grown with the experience. When we oppose a team that is competitive with us, we have an opportunity to display our level of excellence and, regardless of whether we win or lose, we grow and learn and mature as a team and as individual players.

8 – Praise and Encouragement

We hear some coaches talking about how we must praise our kids. So far, so good, and you have to move on so the player doesn' t get ‘ stuck. ' So let ' s praise Chuck for what he has done well and then encourage him to go on with improving his performance.

9 – Fairness

Coach Able deals with his players in a very Fair manner -- Coach Baker also deals with her players in a very Fair manner. However their beliefs and methods of operation are completely different; almost opposite each another. I ' m sure you are very Fair with your players but are you a disciple of Coach Able or Coach Baker? Find out so you can be more effective with your leadership.

10 – What is the Purpose of “ The Game? ”

Have you ever asked yourself “ What is the purpose of helping kids play Soccer? ” “ Why am I doing this? ” Well, let ' s see if we can count the ways and come up with the ones that fits you best and, perhaps, the ones that are the most beneficial to your Kids.

11 – Asking The Right Question

Jeanie has just gotten penalized and is ranting and raving about the call. You have called her in off the field and you are going to say exactly the right thing to her. What is this exactly right thing that you say? Listen up; you will be pleasantly surprised with this new and better way.

12 – The Family Team

This is the final article of the first year's series. It sums up the roles and responsibilities of the Parents of the Kids who are participating in a sports/activities program. It reminds parents of their needs to know the etiquette of spectators, the rules of the activity, the strategies involved in the activity, the psychological and personal needs of the participant, the family responsibilities, and the necessity of being a supportive and protective parent.
